What
is Therapeutic Massage?
Therapeutic
massage involves the manipulation of the soft
tissue structures of the body to prevent and
alleviates pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and
stress; and to promote health and awareness.
AMTA defines massage therapy as a profession in
which the practitioner applies manual
techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies
with the intention of positively affecting the
health and well being of the client.
Massage
Therapy improves functioning of the circulatory,
lymphatic, muscular, skeletal, and nervous
systems and may improve the rate at which the
body recovers from injury and illness. Massage
involves holding, causing movement of soft
tissue, and/or applying pressure to the body.

Chair
Massage is Beneficial:
Is your body stuck in all the wrong positions?
Your muscles will remember all the wrong
positions if you sustain a posture over a long
period of time without stretching the correct
muscles. When the degree of tension in the body
is changed, there is a "recording" of
those changes by the neurological system. One of
the primary goals of therapeutic bodywork is to
find ways to help the body record the beneficial
changes.
I didn't
know that was sore:
Many times you will find other areas of
soreness besides the one you want to address.
Your body may try to adjust a problem by
guarding the creating other muscles and the area
to work for the injured muscles. Other reasons
to find unusual soreness is that your body will
try to balance out the problem on the other
side. Massage will help you recognized the
patterns of tightness of your body to help
detect problems before they occur.
Studies
show:
At the University of Miami School of
"Medicine's Touch Research Institute",
70 studies on touch - the majority massage
therapy - have been published or are underway.
Recent and ongoing research at some of the
national hospitals, such as Cedars Sinai Medical
Center in Los Angeles, is expanding knowledge of
the benefits of massage for a variety of
injuries and ailments.
